History

Clinica Adelante, Inc. was formed in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 through a collaboration of community agencies who organized Surprise and El Mirage, Arizona residents to lobby for improved health services in the then-rural area. In response to community needs, clinic staff expanded rapidly over the years, from a staff of 12 with 2.6 providers in 1982, to our current staff of 189 with 23 full time providers. Today, Clinica Adelante is an important part of the healthcare safety net and continues to expand sites and services to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Service Area

Maricopa County, Arizona encompasses 9,222 square miles of desert land, including densely populated metropolitan Phoenix as well as vast rural areas, and houses more than half of the state's population. Our patients reside in 95% of Maricopa County's ZIP codes and visit our family healthcare locations in Surprise, Wickenburg, Buckeye, Gila Bend, and Mesa, our OB/GYN clinic in Sun City West, and our dental clinic at our Buckeye site. Clinica Adelante¹s Rural Health Team mobile medical clinic serves 16 schools in the far western county, while Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition services are available at 10 locations. All our sites are located in designated Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas.

Governance

As a federal Section 330 grantee, our all-volunteer community health center Board of Directors composition, activities, and governance must meet all aspects of the Bureau of Primary Health Care¹s Health Center Program Expectations 51% of our Board is made up of our patients from the communities served by Clinica Adelante.

Our Management Team

	Avein Saaty-Tafoya MBA, HCM Chief Executive Officer Ms. Tafoya joined Clinica Adelante in 2006, after serving as VPICU Telemedicine Administrator at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. She has over ten years experience working with Community Health Centers, Clinician Networks, and State Primary Care Association Clinical Programs. She has worked with MDS Pharma Services, Health Net of California, The Jeffrey Foundation and various hospital and healthcare organizations.
	Matthew King MD Chief Medical Officer Dr. King joined Clinica Adelante, Inc. in 2000 after seven years as a family practice clinician and Medical Director at Family Health Center, Okanogan, WA. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Washington in 1989 and completed his internship and residency at the Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, CA and also served as an emergency department physician in CA.
	Manuel Ferreiro CFP Chief Financial Officer Mr. Ferreiro joined Clinica Adelante in 2004 after eleven years with Greater Lawrence Family Health Center in Lawrence, MA where he first served as Controller and then as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Ferreiro holds a BS in Business Administration from Boston University and is a Certified Financial Planner.
